Avant de pouvoir rejoindre Lachen dans le nord du Sikkim il est nécessaire de faire une demande de permis spécial. En attendant les permis, l'équipe découvre la ville, la culture sikkimaise et fait les nombreux achats nécessaires à la mise en place du chantier.

Dès le premier jour, nous allons rencontrer Tashi Densapa directeur du Namgyal Institute of Tibetology qui a tant fait pour que le projet se mette en place. Anna Balikci est aussi là, anthropologue, elle travaille au NIT et suit le projet de restauration du Lachen Mani Lhakhang depuis 2012. Nous envisageons d'organiser une rencontre autour de la construction en pierre sèche dans la salle de conférence du NIT à la fin de la mission à Lachen afin que Robert puisse communiquer sur son expérience de spécialiste de la pierre sèche.
On the first day, the team goes to the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology to meet Mister Tashi Densapa the director, who made so much for the project. Anna Balikci, anthrologist, is also there. She follows and supports the project as well since 2012. We are planning to organize a seminar on the theme of dry stone construction in the conference hall of Tibetology center, so that Robert can communicate about his experience as a dry stone specialist.

Vendredi, Anie est arrivée de Katmandu, elle a pris l'avion puis la voiture pendant 5 heures, mais dès son arrivée, Robert lui fait un cours sur la pierre sèche jusqu'à une heure du matin! La communication est établie avec succès!
On friday 27th of May, Anie arrives from Katmandu. She took a plane and afterwards she took a car for 5 hours to reach Gangtok. But as soon as she's there, Robert gives her an accelerated training on dry stone masonry until 1am! Communication is established successfully!

Dans le restaurant Absolute Demazong, il est possible de goûter à la bière traditionnelle de millet fermenté faite à l'eau chaude, présentée dans des chopes de bambou et bue avec une paille.

Grand débat pour la liste de nourriture. Sachant que la route est coupée par un glissement de terrain entre Gangtok et Lachen, nous ne pourrons pas facilement nous approvisionner. Nous décidons d'acheter de quoi manger pour dix jours. Tout devra être transporté par dessus le glissement de terrain à dos d'homme.
Discussion about fooding: the road is blocked between Gangtok and Lachen because of a landslide, therefore it will be difficult to purchase vegetables and all stuff. We decide to buy food for ten days. All bags will be carried above the landslide area by porters.
