Préparatifs pour la toiture de la cuisine nord - Preparing the northern kitchen's roof restoration

Les Nyungney Ams utilisent beaucoup la cuisine nord pour cuisiner sur le four à bois (chula), faire du thé au beurre, échanger des gâteaux faits à la poêle ou frits (kabse), mais aussi pour se tenir et prier. Durant notre séjour en effet nous occupons leur maison de bois. 

Durant l'été, la plupart des Nyungney Ams s'installent à Tanggu dans le village à deux heures de route au nord de Lachen où le climat est meilleur durant la mousson (4000 mètres d'altitude). Mais certaines d'entre elles restent à Lamoteng et continuent de venir au Mani Lhakhang tous les dimanches pour prier.

The Nyungney Ams use the northern kitchen a lot. The use the oven (chula) for cooking, but also to make butter tea. They stay in the northern kitchen, exchange home made cakes and fried biscuits (Kabse) actually because we occupy their wooden house. 

During summer usually, they settle down in Tanggu, a village located two hours away from Lachen towards North where the climate is better during monsoon (4000 meters high in altitude). However, some of them remain in Lamoteng and come every sunday in the Mani Lhakhang to pray.

La cuisine nord est dans un piteux état. La fumée de bois  causée par le four étant suffocante et la cuisine n'étant pas munie d'une cheminée, les Nyungney Ams ont ouvert la toiture de tôle afin d'aérer. Malheureusement, cela entraine des infiltrations d'eau importantes dans la charpente et la maçonnerie. 

Nous avons souhaité réparer la toiture de la cuisine nord en même temps que celle de la cuisine sud (ouverte dans le but de restaurer le mur sud) cette année, afin de réduire la progression des dommages faits au bâtiment. 

Cependant, nous sommes toujours en recherche de fonds pour mener à bien la restauration de la partie centrale de la toiture et de la charpente au dessus du hall principal du temple.

The northern kitchen is in a bad state. When people use the oven, a lot of smoke is created and without chemney, the air is suffocating. Therefore, the Nyungney Ams have opened the tin sheet roof to air the kitchen. Unfortunately, this causes important water infiltrations and further damages in the timber and in the masonry. 

We decided to repair the northern kitchen's roof together with the southern kitchen (necessarily opened for the restoration of the southern wall) this year, in order to stop the new damages. 

However, we are still looking for more fund to carry out the restoration of the central roof on top of the main hall of the Mani Lhakhang.

Pour restaurer la toiture, nous avons bâti un abri en bambou et bâche en plastique afin d'ouvrir la toiture en étant protégés de la pluie.

In order to restore the roof, we built a protection against the rain with bamboo and plastic shelter.

Les poutres et les chevrons en mauvais état seront remplacés. Nous avons commandé du bois qui a été coupé sur le collines au dessus de Lamoteng.

The damaged timber pieces will be replaced. For this we asked the villagers to cut down some rafters from the forest above Lamoteng village.

A ce moment là, la tôle ondulée arrive de Mangan. Maintenant que la route est ouverte les camions peuvent enfin livrer le matériel commandé et bloqué depuis un mois.

At the same moment, the tin sheets ordered for the roof arrive from Mangan. Now that the road is open, the trucks and pick ups can finally drive up all the material that was stuck since one month.

T. Lama est le frère de Pati et le cousin de Baichung, ici avec son fils. Il est moine (Ngakpa), dans la tradition Nyingma, les moines ont le droit de se marier, d'avoir des enfants et de travailler. Il est donc aussi conducteur de camion et nous aide beaucoup pour le projet depuis 2013, notamment pour la livraison du sable jaune de Kalep et de l'argile grise de Daray.

T. Lama is the brother of Pati and the cousin of Baichung, here he's with his young son. He is a monk (Ngakpa); in the Nyingma tradition monks can choose to get married, have kids and work. So he is also a truck driver and helps us a lot on the project since 2013, like for the delivery of the yellow sand from Kalep and the grey clay from Daray.
